Denver Infertility Clinic Ranks High in IVF Success Rates -- Good News for Women over 40
Denver, CO (PRWEB) May 21, 2007 -- The U.S. government Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recently released their 2004 report of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) IVF (In-Vitro Fertilization) success statistics. Once again, the Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine (CCRM) ranks among the leading U.S. clinics reporting successful IVF treatment. The data for this report came from the 411 fertility clinics in operation in 2004 that provided and verified data on the outcomes of all ART cycles started in their clinics.
"We are proud to report our success rates to the CDC for those seeking statistical information regarding our clinic," said Dr. William Schoolcraft, founder and Medical Director for the Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine. "We continually exceed the national average for all age groups, by about 20% across the board, but we're extremely pleased with the results our clinic achieves with older patients--those between 38 and 42 years of age with diminished ovarian reserve."
A woman's age is the most important factor affecting the chances of a live birth when her own eggs are used. Success rates decline with each year of age and are particularly low for women 40 or older. The national average for pregnancy was 23% for women age 40; the live birth rate for this age was 16%. Women in the 41-42 age group undergoing treatment at CCRM averaged a 42.6% pregnancy rate with the live birth rate at 29.4%.
The extraordinary success rate Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine achieves in its older patients is due to many factors. First, CCRM carefully screens patients for hidden causes of prior or potential IVF failure. Secondly, their on-site laboratory services, provided by Fertility Laboratories of Colorado offers an optimal environment to maximize the growth, development and implantation potential of embryos. And lastly, through the use of pre-implantation genetic screening (PGS), embryos are tested with a 90% accuracy rate to detect chromosomally abnormal development which can lead to miscarriage.
The following CCRM statistics are for the age group of 38 to 42 years old using their own eggs. More information for women less than 38 years old and/or using frozen or donor eggs is available at http://www.ColoCRM.com/successrates.htm.
